FAQ
STRANGER: What’s this project about?MODS: This zine will be for a physical full 78 deck of tarot cards.
The goal is to have an accompanying booklet with card art and meanings. We would like to include writers in this project! If we have enough applications/ interest on our interest check, the book will also contain “mini fic” based on the art and meaning of each card. These would be 100-200 words in length. Based on applications and interest, we may take on 6 writers who will be doing 2-3k word fics
STRANGER: Why did you pick such a large project? 78 cards and writing seems like a lot!MODS: There have been dozens of people who have come to me to tell me how sad they were they missed joining the last one! This was the best way I could think of to include as many people as possible. This is a project I hold dear to my heart (as someone who collects tarot decks!) I know that many people feel the same about them, so it makes the project accessible and interesting for many!
STRANGER: Can I contribute more than one piece?MODS: This will be based on the applications received, if we have left over cards, any drop outs etc - but yes! If you want to draw and write for your chosen card, or if you want to be available to draw a second card, that will be an option available to you!
STRANGER: How are you going to be assigning cards?MODS: After a lot of discussion with various other tarot zines, we have decided to make the applications themselves pitch based. You will pick choice of character and card between the Major and Minor Arcana.Once we have an idea of which cards are covered and which are not, we will be assigning remaining cards.
STRANGER: What about less popular cards? What if all cards aren’t chosen by someone?MODS: The application itself is very specific; you are to pick your top choices for characters and cards, but you may not get them. We need to ensure every card is accounted for
STRANGER: Why is the schedule so spread out?MODS: With the large scale of this project there needs to be AMPLE time for all artists, writers, and moderators to be in sync! I’m not in the business of rushing perfection.
If the stars manage to align, and things finish early, we will be adjusting schedule and opening shop early as well
STRANGER: Will this project ship overseas?MODS: Yes! Baring extenuating circumstances, this project will be able to ship nearly worldwide. (It will be shipping from Canada, and any shipping restrictions by the time preorders are happening will be shared!)
STRANGER: Will you promote this in multiple places? I don’t want to miss when sign ups open!MODS: Yes! We will promote in multiple Discord servers and sites. The apps will also stay open long enough for hopefully everyone who wants to join to apply!
STRANGER: I’m just starting art and writing - I want to apply but I’m worried I won’t be approved. What is the skill requirement for this project?MODS: Good news! All skill levels will be accepted into this project. Our criteria when looking at samples are as such: is it a professional looking image? If it’s traditional is it scanned properly and not a photograph? Do you know how to draw backgrounds? Are you doing your best with anatomy and not stick figures? Is there nice composition in your pieces? Not AI or tracing?
The goal is to let as many interested as possible join, but we will still be capping it around 50. If you are not chosen, it’s not because we didn’t like your art! It just might be better in a different project.
STRANGER: I’m a little confused by the application for artist - how do I fill this in?MODS: The application has now been adjusted for ease! Just select all the characters you would like to draw!
Then in the actual “pitch” section, if you don’t know the card you’re interested in, or don’t mind, just give a “vibe”. Example: “I want to draw John in a dramatic / moody way. Any card.” We will do our best to assign you a card with that theme!
Do what’s easy for you! This was simply for us to see what was being chosen!
STRANGER: I have another question not answered hereMODS: Send an ask on Tumblr or message on Twitter!
This FAQ is still under construction and being added to as we receive questions.
